BUNER: Car lifted from Karachi was used in Buner blast

BUNER, Dec 31: The preliminary investigation in the Sunday’s suicide bombing, which killed 43 persons here at Shalbandi area, revealed that the vehicle used in the blast was lifted from Karachi.

Sources privy to the investigation told Dawn that security agencies raided various places and took some suspects into custody.

They said that experts believed that around 70 to 80 kilogram explosives material was filled in the car and to make it more devastating the saboteurs also put ball bearings and cartridges of Kalashnikov in it.

They said that experts of the federal and provincial security agencies had been probing the suicide bombing occurred on the day of by-poll in NA-28 constituency in Buner, adjacent to the restive Swat Valley. The experts have sent some body parts of the alleged suicide bomber for DNA tests.

Sources said that raiding teams had also recovered some arms from suspects and had now been investigating whether the said arms were taken away from security personnel or they had acquired it from some where else.

The bombing targeting a polling station had ripped through some buildings and resulted in death of 43 persons. Polling was suspended at 11 polling stations after the blast.
