Traders observe strike in Quetta, Chaman

QUETTA, Jan 1: The business community observed a strike in Quetta and Chaman on Thursday in protest against the recent killing of four traders by police in Karachi.

All shopping centres and markets remained closed in response to the strike call given by Anjuman-i-Tajran Balochistan which was supported by Pukhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl), Awami National Party, Tehrik-i-Insaf, Pakistan Muslim League-N, JUI (Ideological) and Jamaat-i-Islami.

Traffic, however, remained normal and government departments functioned as usual.

Traders took out a procession in the provincial capital and held a public meeting at Meezan Chowk where speakers demanded arrest of the killers.

Thousands of people attended the funeral of the traders in Chaman.
