SUKKUR: Thousands participate in Rohri procession

SUKKUR, Jan 7: Thousands of mourners from all over Sindh participated in a mourning procession in Rohri on Wednesday to pay homage to the martyrs of Karbala.

Strict security measures had been adopted throughout the route of the procession to prevent any untoward incident.

Thousands of mourners from different parts of Sindh had reached Rohri on 8th Muharram, where they remained busy in mourning throughout the night between 8th and 9th Muharram.

In early morning of 9th Muharram, the mourning procession emerged from Masjid Shah-i-Iraq in the Karbala ground. The procession after reaching Mando Khabar stayed there till afternoon. Then it resumed its journey through Shahi Bazaar, Dhak Road, Wichoro Chowk and Haider Shah Haqani Muhalla and ended at Karbala ground, where Majlis Sham-i-Ghariban was held.

Strict security measures were adopted throughout the town to prevent any untoward incident. Walk-through gates were installed on the route of the procession and the mourners were allowed to join the procession after passing through the gates.

During checking at a walk-through gate, police arrested one Zain Jatoi and recovered a pistol from his possession. He said that the pistol was a licensed one and he was carrying it in self-defence as he had enmity with some people. Police are investigating.

On Thursday, a big mourning procession will be taken out in Sukkur. According to Sukkur DPO Sharjeel Kharal, measures had been taken for the security of mourners. He said that besides police, Rangers would also patrol the route of the mourning procession.

The mourning procession starts from Markazi Imam Bargah, Waritar Road, and after passing through Barrage Road, Clock Tower roundabout, Minara Road, Station Road, Ayub Gate and Gurdwara Chowk, ends at the starting point.

In Dadu, eight Zuljinah processions were taken out from different Imam Bargahs. Six processions were taken out in Mehar, four in Khairpur Nathan Shah, four in Johi and six in Sehwan.

Security was beefed up and police patrol was intensified in Dadu and other towns of the district.

In Mirpurkhas, Majalis Aza were held in different Imam Bargahs and Alam and Zuljinah processions were also taken out from different places amidst strict security arrangements.

Main procession was taken out from Imam Bargah Dargah Makhan Shah. Later a Majlis was held which was addressed by Moulana Ziaul Hassan Naqvi.

Another procession was taken out from Kehri Imam Bargah, Bhansinghabad. Moulana Abid Raza Irfani, Moulana Quratul Ain and Allama Sabt Hassan Aashore spoke at Majalis held in different areas of the city.

YOUM-I-ASHUR: The people of Hyderabad will observe Youm-i-Ashur, 10th Muharram, with sanctity on Thursday like other parts of the country, adds APP.

With the start of Muharram, Majalis-i-Aza are being held and mourning processions taken out from different parts of Hyderabad city, Latifabad, Qasimabad and city suburbs and the phenomenon has reached at its peak on Muharram 6.

Ulema, Zakirs and Khatibs in their addresses highlighted the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions, who sacrificed their live for Islam in Karbala.

On Youm-i-Ashur, around two dozens of mourning processions will be taken out, which will join the main procession, to be taken out under the banner of Anjuman-i-Hyderi from Qadamgah Moula Ali. The mourning procession will terminate at Karbala Dadan Shah before Asr prayers.

The organizers have made arrangements for Zuhar prayers at one of the points on the route of the procession.

A number of social welfare organisations, including Khidmat-i-Khalq Committee and medical wing of Anjuman-i-Hyderi, have established medical camps with ambulances to provide first aid cover to mourners.

A big procession of Alam and Tazia will be taken out from the Market area after Zuhar prayers, which will terminate at Phuleli Canal before Maghrib prayers after marching on its traditional route.

Majalis of Shaam-i-Ghriban will be held after Isha prayers at different places, including Qadamgah Moula Ali, Karbala Dadan Shah and Mehfil-i-Hussaini.

Police have been put on high alert to prevent any untoward incident. Police and Rangers have been deployed in sensitive areas, at the routes of mourning processions and on rooftops of buildings situated along the routes.

Volunteers of Civil Defence and officials of Bomb Disposal Squad will escort mourning processions.
