Traders protest killing of colleague

BAHAWALPUR, Jan 13: Hundreds of traders and shopkeepers of markets around Old University Campus Chowk on Tuesday demonstrated to protest against a colleague’s murder and the police inaction.

Two armed men shot dead Faiz Rasool Bajwa, a computer dealer, at his shop late Monday night. The next morning, no sooner had the traders heard the news than a large number of them pulled their shutters down and threw traffic out of gear at a congested intersection.

As police officials reached the spot and tried to placate the demonstrators, the latter demanded immediate arrest of Bajwa’s killers and (monetary) compensation for the bereaved family.

LECTURES: Noted educationist Dr Syed Salman Nadvi of the Durban University (South Africa) began a series of lectures on the life of the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) on Islamia University Bahawalpur’s Baghdadul Jadid campus on Tuesday.

The inaugural lecture was on “The historical view of Pre-Islamic Arab”.
