KARACHI: Shaikh Ayaz’s widow dies

KARACHI, Jan 14: Iqbal Begum, the widow of Shaikh Ayaz, the most prominent Sindhi poet of 20th century, has died in Shikarpur after suffering cardiac arrest. She was 70.

She leaves behind two sons and a daughter.

She was laid to rest in Manocheher Shah Ghazi graveyard in Shikarpur.

A graduate from Sindh University, Iqbal Begum wrote short stories which were published in Naeen Zindagi, Adyoon, Mehran and other literary journals.

She also took part in politics and was elected general secretary of the Sukkur division chapter of the Pakistan People’s Party in 1970s.
