KARACHI: Arab leaders urged to adopt strong stance against Israel

KARACHI, Jan 14: Profound and sincere efforts are the need of the hour to deal with the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, for no human being can remain indifferent to the throttling of humanity.

This was stated by Prof Dr Moonis Ahmar, chairman of the international relations department of Karachi University, while speaking at a seminar on Israeli atrocities in Gaza held on the campus on Wednesday.

Dr Ahmar said, “It is not a war between religions, rather it is a battle between humanity and inhumanity,” suggesting that the Arab leaders need to have a meaningfully strong and consistent stance against Israeli aggression.

Former chairman of the international relations department Prof Shameem Akthar said that Israel had long been following racist and anti-human policies.

“Israel is an occupying power according to the UNSC Resolution 242, and Palestinians have a just right according to the international norms and laws to resist an occupying power,” he observed.

He said the Palestinians have no other way left but to struggle if present Israeli policies were not changed. Highlighting the current humanitarian disaster, Farhan Hanif Siddiqui said that the terrible event was inevitable because for the past one and half years Israel had been pursuing a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip that denied the civilians an access to vital necessities like flour, sugar and rice.

He said it was a fact that Israel broke the truce by attacking Gaza with aircraft and tanks in which six civilians were killed.

A resolution, passed unanimously by the participants of the seminar, strongly condemned the Israeli atrocities and called on the international community to respond adequately.

The resolution demanded an immediate cessation of aggression by Israel and in case of Israel failing to do so, the international community according to the international law should take strict action including imposing sanctions on Israel.—APP
