Minorities will get representation in Senate: PM

ISLAMABAD, Jan 16: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani informed the National Assembly on Friday that minorities would be given representation in the forthcoming Senate elections.

The prime minister said that the matter had been discussed with President and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, who had agreed in principle that minorities should also have representation in the Senate.

The premier said there was already one member of the Senate from the minority Hindu community, Ratna Chawla, representing the Pakistan People’s Party. He pointed out that Ms Chawla had been elected on a Muslim seat.
