4 suspects being quizzed over doctor’s murder

LAHORE, Jan 17: Police claim to have taken four suspects into custody, including an alleged notorious figure belonging to Kasur, to investigate the assassination of Shaikh Zayed Hospital administrator.

Dr Abdul Saboor Malik was ambushed and killed by two unidentified motorcyclists when he left his C-Block, Model Town, residence on Saturday morning by a car to reach the hospital.

When contacted, Model Town SP (investigations) Rai Ejaz claimed that two separate police teams of the investigations wing and the CIA were interrogating two suspects belonging to Lahore and two to Kasur but were yet clueless.

He said Nadir Gujjar, of Kasur, who had agriculture lands adjacent to the doctor’s over 50-acre land and also happened to be his friend as well as of former police inspector Abid Boxer, was being questioned along with his associate in connection with the murder.

To a question, the SP said the possibility of involvement of Gujjar in the incident could not be ruled out.

He said the doctor had multiple investments in real estate in Lahore and Multan, adding he had also invested in stock market and some other businesses. The SP said so far interrogation with the family revealed that the doctor had also to receive over Rs10 million from a party in connection with a business.

Responding to a question, the SP said the cell phone records of the victim revealed that he had neither received nor made any call on the day of the incident. However, a few calls were made and received by him on Jan 15.

“We are tracing all dialed and received numbers of doctor’s cell phone which may help in tracing the killers,” he added.

The official further said the police teams were also checking his bank accounts and business transactions and calls received on his official numbers of the hospital.

“We are working on three leads relating to the property and investments of the doctor,” the SP said.
