PESHAWAR: Prosecutors’ transfer to law department recommended

PESHAWAR, Jan 24: The NWFP Assembly’s Standing Committee on Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights has recommended the transfer of public prosecutors from the home department to the law department so that “they could perform their duties more efficiently”.

The recommendation was made at a meeting of the committee held at the Assembly Secretariat on Saturday under MPA Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao, says a handout.

The meeting was also attended by NWFP Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Barrister Arshad Abdullah and MPAs Jaffar Shah, Sanjeeda Yousaf, Mehr Sultana and Sajida Tabassum.

The meeting noted that after the transfer of public prosecutors to the home department, their problems had increased and their efficiency badly affected, while their performance under the law department was more satisfactory. Therefore, the meeting recommended the transfer of public prosecutors from the home department to the law department.

It also decided to postpone discussion on the access to justice programme to the next meeting of the committee in which all the departments would be invited.
