ISLAMABAD, Jan 24: The Lahore police have registered a case with the Islamabad police against an identified thief for depriving its team of a rifle and a cellphone after they met with an accident in the federal capital while going to the Supreme Court of Pakistan on January 16.

The capital police on Saturday said the incident came to light after a week of the incident when the Lahore police sought back their belongings - a jeep, official equipment and weapons - from Golra police and found the SMG and the cellphone missing.

However, it is yet to be ascertained when and where the rifle and the mobile had been stolen and by whom.

When the police officials from Qila Gujar Singh, Lahore, comprising DSP Malik Mohammad Owais, an investigating officer, a gunman and a driver reached Kashmir Highway near GT Road, their vehicle overturned.

All the officials suffered injuries and were shifted to Pims by the Tarnol and Golra police. Some hours later, the capital police took the jeep and belongings into their custody and shifted them to the Golra police station.

After their discharge from the hospital, the police officials left for Lahore and later sought their belongings but found some of the equipment missing. Later, they lodged a complaint with the capital police stating that an unidentified thief had stolen the SMG and the cellphone.

The Golra police, when contacted, said it was yet to be ascertained whether the rifle and the cellphone were stolen from the scene of the accident or from the police station.

The actual time of the theft incident is also not known, they added.
