Dawa urges UN to lift ban

LAHORE, Jan 25: The proscribed Jamaatud Dawa urged the United Nations on Sunday to lift the sanctions which it said had been imposed ‘without any justification’ and merely on allegations levelled by India.

A Jamaatud Dawa spokesman said that an appeal to lift the sanctions had been sent to the UN, explaining that its continuation would affect thousands of people who were benefiting from its welfare services.

In its letter, according to the spokesman, Dawa said it had nothing to do with terrorism; it was a welfare organisation and Indian allegations that it was involved in the Mumbai terrorist attacks were baseless.
