MULTAN, Jan 25: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Pakistan will share finding of its investigation into the Mumbai terror attacks with other countries.

Addressing a public meeting at the Bosan Road bypass on Sunday, he said the country would not allow anybody to use its soil for terrorist activities.

He said Pakistan and India should concentrate on uplift of their people.

The prime minister said Pakistan wanted best of relations with all neighbours, including India, but on the basis of equality.

He said war was not a solution to any problem and Pakistan and India would have to work together to combat terrorism.

Mr Gilani ruled out mid-term elections, saying the government and assemblies would complete their tenure. He said the country could not afford mid-term elections.

He said the country’s integrity faced a threat after the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto but the federation was safe today because of pro-Pakistan slogans raised by President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The prime minister said some elements were creating misunderstanding about the government’s stability, but it would complete its term and fulfil all promises made to people.

He said major development projects would be launched within six months.

The prime minister urged all political parties to cooperate with the government to overcome internal and external challenges. He said political parties had committed mistakes in the past, but the country could not afford such mistakes now.

He said the past governments had always delayed the appointment of leaders of the opposition, while this government had named him the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee. He said the government had also invited the media to play its role for guiding the government.

He said the government was preparing a plan to confirm the services of all contract employees and create job opportunities.

Mr Gilani announced that he would not contest election from his constituency again if anyone succeeded in carrying out more development of the area than him.

He said that the government would pursue the development process in all backward areas in the four provinces, because the Pakistan People’s Party was a symbol of the federation.

The prime minister said some well-wishers had advised him not to go out because of security reasons, but he had told them that “we are people’s representatives and they will guard us”.

He said Balochistan was free of loans for the first time because the government had written them off. He said the national economy was recovering as a result of the government’s policies.

He said his party had fulfilled its promises of repealing the ‘black’ laws of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, restoring trade unions and increasing wheat procurement price form Rs425 to Rs950 per 40kgs.

He said Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif had promised to declare Multan a ‘big city’ within a week.
