Pipeline burst

THATTA, Jan 26: A 72-inch diameter pipeline burst near Dhabeji pumping station on Monday morning, suspending water supply to the outskirts of Karachi’s Ghaghar Phatak, Malir, Gulshan-i-Hadeed and Landhi areas.

It is one of the nine pipelines supplying 70 million gallons each (650 gallons) to Karachi metropolis from Keenjhar Lake through the Dhabeji pumping station.

The executive engineer of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, Zafar Palijo, told Dawn that the rupture was caused by failure of electricity in the area. It was the second such incident within a month, he said.
