NAIROBI, Jan 28: Thousands of people streamed out of their offices in downtown Nairobi on Wednesday as a massive fire engulfed a supermarket, sending plumes of black smoke into the sky.

Police said they were investigating the cause of the fire and whether there were any casualties.

The smoke forced some nearby buildings to evacuate their workers. Police used whips to beat back crowds trying to get a closer look at the blaze. —AP
