Demonstration against Punjab govt
ATTOCK, Feb 2: A large number of opposition PML-Q activists and local body representatives held a protest rally on Monday against the Punjab government’s for creating hurdles in the working of local government. They asked the provincial government to adopt pro-people and pro-business policies and desist from harassing the local governments.
The protestors, joined by traders and students, carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against district officers and provincial government, marched from the house of PML-Q local leader Malik Hameed Akbar at Sheenbagh village and reached at the main bazaar after passing through Katcheri chowk and Basal road.
Addressing the rally, PLM-Q city president Haji Akram said that unwise policies of the present government had pushed the people to poverty, price-hike, unemployment and loadshedding problems.
He criticised the government for creating obstacles in the administrative and financial matters of the local governments.
The speakers alleged that the building department had awarded over Rs5 million contracts recently in violation of rules and regulations besides advertising the vacancies of over 2,500 teachers without the approval of district government.
The students demanded of the government to resume master’s level classes at the Government Postgraduate College which had been suspended by the Punjab University.
They asserted that the tussle between provincial and district governments had added to the miseries of the common masses.
They claimed that the corruption charges against the nazims by the provincial government last month were politically motivated and intended to destabilise the local body system.They said that the government should resolve the problems being faced by the people rather settling their own personal interests.
PML-N youth observe hunger strike
Youth wing of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz on Monday observed one day hunger strike here at Fowarah Chowk for the restoration of deposed judges. The call for the strike was given by their provincial leadership.
The hunger strike camp was decorated with the banners inscribed with slogans for the restoration of all deposed judges. Such camps were also set up in other tehsils of the district including Hazro, Hassanabdal and Fatehjang.
The PML-N Youth wing leaders including Waheed Murad General secretary Rawalpindi division, district president Attock district Malik Ismail, vice president Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal, senior Vice president Amir Husnian advocate, Tehsil Attock President Malik Muhammad Fiaz and city president Amjid Khan observed the hunger strike from 9am to 4pm.
