KARACHI: No action against old settlements: Nazim

KARACHI, Feb 3: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal said on Tuesday that the no plans were being made to raze old settlements or goths to the ground. He made these remarks following a slew of critical comments made by members of the Sindh Assembly and the City Council who alleged that plans were afoot to raze to the ground quite a few old settlements in the city.

The Nazim said that the city government had been making every possible effort to bring development to the goths.

He said the city government’s actions provided ample proof of the policy of providing basic facilities to old settlements.Mr Kamal claimed that the city government had taken practical steps to upgrade basic facilities in goths and urban areas for the first time in the country’s history.

“Hundreds of goths were, for the first time, provided direct access to the city through newly constructed roads, while a water and sewerage network was also laid in these areas,” his statement reads.

He reiterated that the razing of goths was unimaginable.—Agencies
