Nida sets final date with Sara: Sindh Open ranking tennis

KARACHI, Feb 5: The ladies singles final of the second Sindh Open ranking tennis tournament to be played between Islamabad’s Sara Mansoor and Nida Waseem on Friday has garnered interest among the fraternity and promises to be an evenly contested affair.

The two women have set a date for the title battle chalking up emphatic victories over their opponents in their respective semi-finals on the penultimate day at the Beach View Club on Thursday.

Top seed Sara who is competing in a Sindh Open ranking event for the first time posted 6-0, 6-2 victory over Seher Khawaja, a former national hard court champion to ease into final.

Second seed Nida, who is appearing in the domestic circuit after a long layoff, accounted for Eman Malik 6-3, 6-2 in the other semi-final.

Meanwhile, Aqeel Khan is drawn to meet sibling Yasir Khan in the men’s singles final.

Ladies singles:

Semi-finals: Nida Waseem bt Eman Malik 6-3, 6-2; Sara Mansoor (Islamabad) bt Seher Khawaja 6-0, 6-2.

Girls U-17 singles:

Semi-finals: Eman Malik bt Faryal Sharrif 8-2; Maheen Dada bt Uzma Zakaria 8-3.

Boys U-15 singles:

Pre quarter-finals: Sharyar Ahmed bt Adeel Zulfiqar 7-5, 6-0; Saad Noor

Soomar bt Sheryar Mehdi 6-4, 6-0; Farhan Mustafa bt Shah Zaib Nasir 6-1, 6-4; Arslan Allawala bt Daniyal Jafery 6-4, 6-1.

Quarter-final: Farhan Mustafa bt Noor-ur-Rehman 6-4, 6-2.

Juniors U-17 singles:

Quarter-finals: Syed Zuhair Raza bt Hussain Aziz 6-3, 7-5; Hamza Hameed walkover Abdul Rehman; Mustafa Zaidi bt Muntazrain Shoaib 6-3, 6-0; Omer Shahid walkover Nameer Shamsi.

Boys and girls U-11 singles:

Semi-finals: Sarwan Memon bt Moiz Tariq 8-0; Maheen Dada bt Asim Allahwala 8-3.
