Netherlands reach hockey final

CHANDIGARH, Feb 6: The Netherlands secured a spot in the final of the Punjab Gold Cup hockey tournament by beating New Zealand 4-1 in a group match Friday.

The win gives the Netherlands 11 points from five round-robin matches in the four-nation tournament with one group round still to be played. New Zealand remain on two points and have no chance of reaching Monday’s final.

Robbert Kemperman gave the Netherlands the lead in the 23rd minute after taking a pass from Teun Rohof from the right flank. Lucas Judge doubled the lead seven minutes later by tapping in a rebound, and Wouter Jolie converted a penalty corner in the 41st to make it 3-0.

Nick Haig pulled one back for New Zealand in the 63rd from a penalty corner, but Jeroen Hertberger sealed the win in the 69th after taking a rebound and scooping the ball into the net.

Later Germany defeated hostsIndia 4-2 to book a place in the final.
