Girl rescued, kidnappers taken into custody
LAHORE, Feb 7: Kotwali Crimes Investigation Agency police on Saturday recovered a female student allegedly kidnapped for Rs2.5 million ransom and arrested two kidnappers during a raid at a rented house in Ghari Shahu.
Police also recovered Rs400,000 from the accused, which were paid by the girl’s family for her safe release.
‘A’ was kidnapped by the criminals on January 27 when she was returning from Government College for Women, Shad Bagh. The same day, girl’s father received a call from unknown kidnappers who demanded Rs2.5 million ransom for the release of his daughter and also threatened to kill her if the matter was reported to police.
PRISONER DIES: An elderly prisoner died in Kot Lakhpat Jail on Saturday.
Police said Iftikhar, 55, was facing imprisonment in connection with a fraud case registered against him with Nishter Colony police a few months ago. His body was handed over to his brother, a resident of Yatim Khana Chowk, without an autopsy.
According to police, Iftikhar had been ill for quite sometime and died of cardiac arrest.
FALLS FROM ROOF: An 11-year-old boy, who fell from the roof of his house two days ago, died in Jinnah Hospital.
According to Edhi Ambulance Service, Ali Nawaz of Gowalmandi fell from the roof, which had no boundary wall, when he was playing. In another incident, an elderly woman was injured after falling from the roof of her house in Johar Town.
According to Edhi Ambulance Service, Elahi Begum, 60, lost her balance and fellfrom the roof. She was injured seriously and taken to Jinnah Hospital.
