Six Baitullah aides held, arms seized

KARACHI, Feb 14: Police claim to have arrested six alleged terrorists belonging to TTP (Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan) leader Baitullah Mehsood and seized a sizable quantity of arms and narcotics.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Wasim Ahmed told

a press conference on Saturday that the suspects were raising funds for jihadi outfits by committing bank robberies, kidnappings for ransom, drug trafficking and street crimes.

“They also killed two policemen and injured several others, including SSP Farooq Awan, in an attack on a police party on Jan 15 at Sohrab Goth,” the CCPP said.

He said the suspects were arrested on a tip-off during a raid on their hideout at Kanwari Colony in Manghopir.

“A rocket launcher, three rockets, three AK-47 rifles, two TT pistols and three kilograms of hashish were seized from them,” he said.

He identified suspects as Naikul Islam Mehsood, Rahman Mehsood, Farooq Mehsood, Ataullah Mehsood, Habibullah Mehsood and Javaid alias Punjabi. The CCPO said the suspects were also involved in attacks on Nato convoys and kidnapping of some law-enforcement personnel, including FC troops.
