Work begins on power project

SIALKOT, Feb 14: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) has started work on the Rs 700 million mega project of establishing a power plant over Upper Chenab Canal near Nandipur.

According to company chief executive Rana Ashraf Zahid, the project would be completed in three years and would produce 430 megawatt electricity, enabling Gepco to overcome power loadshedding in the Gujranwala region comprising six districts.

He said work on establishing two new grid stations at Ghueinky (Daska) and Bijli Ghar (Sialkot) was under way with a total cost of Rs 300 million.

He said the construction of 150 megawatt power plant near Saahowala-Sambrial over Marala Ravi Link Canal would be completed during the current year.—Correspondent
