Baloch group rejects UN request for direct contact: Solecki’s recovery

QUETTA, Feb 18: The Baloch Liberation United Front rejected on Wednesday United Nations’ request for direct contact to secure release of its official kidnapped on February 2.

BLUF spokesman Mir Shahiq Baloch called a local news agency and said that since his group had already conveyed its demands through the media a direct contact with the UN officials was not necessary.

“If the UN wants safe return of John Solecki it should accept our demands.”

He said the health of Mr Solecki, head of the UN High Commission for Refugees in Quetta, was deteriorating and asked the UN to play its role for the release of Baloch women in government custody and other missing people.

“We will kill John Solecki if our demands are not met,” he warned.

The spokesman said that the deadline to kill Mr Solecki had been extended to give the UN more time to intervene and persuade the government to accept BLUF’s demands. “But because of UN inaction John Solecki could lose his life,” he said.
