New power plant likely at Port Qasim

KARACHI, Feb 23: A power plant donated by the UAE government is likely to be installed at the Port Qasim for which site has already been identified.

This was stated by PQA chairman Afsar Din Talpur during the visit of British High Commissioner Robert Brinkley and Deputy High Commissioner Gibson Daniel to the port on Monday. The chairman explained details of projects in the pipeline for power generation and desalination plants at Port Qasim to cater to the future needs of the area.

During question-answer session, the guests were informed that the Environment Protection Agency primarily looks after environment issues. The chairman said that it was mandatory for every industry at the port to obtain NOC from the EPA.

Robert Brinkley appreciated the role of Port Qasim towards economic development of the country despite global recession. The visiting guests also had a harbour cruise and saw berths and other port facilities.
