HARIPUR: Four killed in Ghazi accident

HARIPUR, Feb 24: Four people, including two children, were killed in an accident in the Ghazi police area here on Tuesday.

Following the incident, angry residents blocked the Tarbela-Ghazi road for two hours, which was opened when police fired tear-gas shells and used batons on the protesters. Five policemen sustained minor injuries when the protesters pelted them with stones.

Eyewitnesses and police said a vehicle carrying the four people from Ghazi to Ghurghustian was hit by a dumper in the Bhai village, killing all the occupants. The accident was so severe that rescue workers retrieved the bodies by cutting through the ill-fated vehicle.

The victims were identified as Maqsood, son of Wali Mohammad, and Zain Shaukat, son of Mohammad Shaukat, of Mohallah Dab Mansehra, and Imran, son of Sarwar, and his relative, Bilal, 6, of the Ghoghushti village. The angry villagers later blocked the Tarbela-Ghazi road by erecting barricades. The road was cleared by the Ghazi police after two hours.
