KHAIRPUR: Demo held against closure of waterway
KHAIRPUR, Jan 1: A large number of growers staged a demonstration in Kumb town on Thursday to protest against water shortage in watercourse L-25. Nazim union council Naseer Faqir Jalalani Imtiaz Mallah led the demonstrators who were carrying damaged plants of wheat in their hands.
They said there was no water for their crops. They held a sit-in and raised slogans against the irrigation officials. District Nazim Nafisa Shah reached the venue of sit-in and assured the provision of water.
BREACH: The Faiz Wah canal developed a 80-foot-wide breach on Thursday, inundating Hondal, Wali Mohammad, Niaz Shar and Mehrab Shar villages. The residents of these villages staged a demonstration in Faiz Ganj and said that water was standing in their houses.
BRIDGE: The Sukkur Barrage chief engineer Ghulam Nabi Mughal has said a bridge over the Rohri canal near Luqman Khairpur would be constructed this month. Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday, he said that estimated cost of the bridge would be Rs20 million.
HESCO: Power supply to different government departments was cut on Wednesday.
The Hesco Executive Engineer said power supply to highways, public health, buildings, revenue, civil hospital, PTCL, education, Pak Rangers, municipal and town committees and union councils had been severed due to non-payment of bills as Rs34.7 million were arrears against these departments.
