Swabi district govt allocates Rs113m under KPP

SWABI, May 16: The district government has allocated Rs113.7 million for different projects under Khushhal Pakistan Programme (KPP), official sources told Dawn here on Thursday.

The sources said the district government in its recently concluded session had approved Rs11.27 million for different development schemes.

However, the opposition alleged that the amount sanctioned for most of the development projects in the government-affiliated union councils and the commission had been devoured in various construction contracts by the government members.

According to the sources, construction work had started on 71 projects across the district for which the government had allocated and sanctioned Rs110.4 million. Besides, the sources said, 21 projects for the welfare of women had been started which would boost the female status.

All the projects relating to the females welfare had been initiated with the consent of the district and tehsil lady councillors as the district government had already taken immense interest in the welfare of the women who had not been allowed to even exercise their right to vote in the local bodies elections.

Meanwhile, district Nazim Sher Zaman Sher has urged the opposition to give up their rigid attitude and mud-slinging campaign against the district government, and rejected the opposition claim that some members had secured commissions in the construction contracts.

If the opposition, he said, failed to give up the boycott of the council session it would mean that it was against the development projects initiated by the government in the district.
