GUJRANWALA: Two youths murdered in retaliation

GUJRANWALA, Jan 9: Two youths were kidnapped and shot dead on Friday on suspicion of giving information which led to the murder of a cousin of Wazirabad Jamaat-i-Islami amir.

Asif Bhatti and Muhammad Asif alias Asu were present in their houses when 10 armed men came there on two cars. They picked them in the presence of family members, stuffed them in their cars and drove away. They shot them dead and threw their bodies on the canal bank.

It may be remembered that Imran Butt, a cousin of city JI amir Sabir Butt, was shot dead a couple of days ago. Imran's family suspected that Asif Bhatti and Muhammad Asif provided information about his movement to his rivals. Wazirabad City police have registered a case and are investigating.

DISMISSED: Six sub-inspectors, nine assistant sub-inspectors, four head constables and six constables were dismissed from service on the charges of corruption, negligence and inefficiency while 14 sub-inspectors, 11 assistant sub-inspectors and five head constables were demoted by the district police authority in 2003.

DPO Saud Aziz told newsmen on Friday that the action was taken against them after inquiries found them guilty. He said annual increments of three inspectors, 55 sub-inspectors, 167 assistant sub-inspectors, 33 head constables and 755 constables were withheld on various charges, while 1,139 officials were censured on their inefficiencies. He urged his subordinates to perform their duty diligently.
