GUJRANWALA: Butchers go on strike
GUJRANWALA, Jan 12: Butchers of Naushera Virkan tehsil went on a shutter down strike on Monday against the arrests of their colleagues for overcharging by the district administration.
At a meeting held at Naushera Virkan, the butchers unanimously decided that they would continue their strike for indefinite period if the crackdown against them was not stopped forthwith.
The participants alleged that the police manhandled them in police stations like criminals while the district administration imposed heavy fines. They claimed that they had to suffer losses after selling meat at the government fixed price. They said the government should fix the prices of meat with the consultation of butchers association.
SOLID STEPS: The local chamber of commerce and industry will adopt solid steps regarding the establishment of a medical college and upgradation of the DHQ Hospital at a meeting to be held at the chamber office on Tuesday (today).
All the associations of traders and industrialists have also been invited to take part in the meeting. This was stated by GCCI president Sheikh Shaukat Javed at a briefing of various standing committees of the chamber here on Monday.
He said the Markazi Anjuman Tajran meeting would be started at 11am at the chamber office under the chairmanship of its president Dr Mahmood Ahmad. The meeting of the Cloth Market Board would be held at 12 O'Clock under the presidentship of Haji Muhammad Nazir, while meetings of other committees would be held in accordance with their schedules.
REVAMPED: The traffic system in the Gujranwala division will be revamped with the provision of better facilities to the traffic staff and marking of roads. This was stated by Traffic SP Intisar Husain Jafari while speaking at a meeting here on Monday.
