SHEIKHUPURA: Seven die, 25 hurt as bus hits coaster

SHEIKHUPURA, Jan 18: Seven passengers were killed while 25 others sustained injuries in an accident on Muridke-Narowal Road near Baghodyal, some 55 kilometres from here on Sunday night.

A speeding coaster (7809-RIC), going to Shakargarh from Lahore, collided head-on with a bus (4718-GLT) coming from the opposite direction. Consequently, five passengers died instantly while two perished on their way to hospital.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital while some seriously injured were shifted to a Lahore hospital. The identity of the deceased and the injured could not be known till the filing of this report. Narang Mandi police are going into the matter.

SEIZED: The motorway and Saddar police in a joint operation seized 497kg hashish and 31kg opium from a car here on Sunday. On a tip off, the police set up a picket near the Sheikhupura interchange and intercepted a car coming from the NWFP. On search, the contraband packed in biscuit and chocolate packets was recovered from the four-wheeler.

Two drug traffickers, Tariq Khan and Fahmeedullah Khan, were also taken into custody. They told police that they were provided the contraband by Shahjee, a resident of Peshawar, for supplying it to Haji Khan at the Minar-i-Pakistan in Lahore.

PERVAIZ ELAHI: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi visited Khyara Kalan near Nankana Sahib on Sunday to condole the death of Malik Ibn-i-Saud Dogar, the younger brother of MPA Zulqernain Dogar. On the occasion, the chief minister ordered the police to arrest the killers at the earliest.
