RAWALPINDI: Dist govt to help prisoners pay fines for release
RAWALPINDI, Jan 20: The district government has asked the jail authorities to submit the list of prison inmates, who have completed their sentences, but are languishing in the jail because of non-payment of fines.
District Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani, who visited Adiala Jail on Tuesday, said he would arrange the payment of fines with the help of philanthropists. "I would like to see these people re-united with their families on the auspicious occasion of Eidul Azha," he said while talking to this reporter.
The Nazim further ordered installation of three new filtration plants to provide clean drinking water to the inmates. Taking note of the poor recreational facilities in the barracks, he promised the inmates that coloured television sets would be provided.
Most of the prisoners complained of unavailability of transport and guards to escort them to the courts due to which they often missed hearing of their cases. The situation, Mr Kiani was told, also resulted in inordinate delay in disposal of cases.
Mr Kiani directed the police to provide adequate number of guards for transporting prisoners to the courts. He talked to different prisoners and asked them about the progress of their cases. He assured them of all possible legal assistance.
The Nazim was presented complaints about delay in presentation of challan before the courts and wrong investigation. He ordered the authorities to collect details about all such cases.
