KHAIRPUR: Rain causes power failure

KHAIRPUR, Jan 21: Residents of the town are experiencing power breakdowns following the first winter rain. The power supply to many areas of the town remained suspended from 3pm to 8pm on Tuesday , affecting normal life and business activities in Luqman, Abid Colony, Butra, Gharhi Pul, Altaf Colony, Dhani Faqiriani Colony, Civic Centre, and Panj Gulla.

The power supply to the main trading towns of the district - Ranipur, Therhi, Kot Diji, Kumb, Sobhodero, Saghiyoon - was also suspended. The Hesco office said there was a fault in the line.

FESTIVAL: An educational festival will be held at the cricket ground of the government Naz pilot high school Khairpur on Jan 25. The Indus Resource Centre, the district government and private schools are jointly organizing the one-day event in order to create a supportive educational environment.

Talking to this correspondent on Wednesday, IRC programme officer Naveed Khayal said that about 30 government, non- governmental and private schools of the district would participate in the festival.

He said the IRC was working for the capacity building of NGOs and CBOs in Khairpur and Dadu districts for the last three years. He said at present it was running 35 non-formal and formal schools in Khairpur and 30 in Dadu.

Besides, it was working to raise the standard of 15 government schools in the district, he added. Teachers training, community participation and extra- curricular activities are important features of the programme, he added.

He said the event would promote education through exposure of good work done by various schools, provide opportunities to students and teachers to demonstrate their talents.
