Musharraf exploiting judiciary, says SCBA

LARKANA, Aug 29: President of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan Hamid Ali Khan on Friday accused President Gen Pervez Musharraf of exploiting judiciary and raising non-issues like Kalabagh dam and greater Thal canal.

He was speaking to the members of the Larkana High Court Bar Association here on Friday.

Criticizing President Musharraf, he said that he (the president) was running a one-man show, adding that he was bent upon disintegrating the federation.

Hamid Ali Khan maintained that the only issue confronting the nation was the Legal Framework Order by virtue of which Gen Pervez Musharraf was holding it (the nation) hostage, adding that the judiciary was also playing into his hands.

He said that while there were no differences between the provinces and people of different ethnic backgrounds but the secret agencies and other law enforcement agencies were bent upon pitching one brother against another to strengthen the dictatorial regimes and prolonging their rules.

LFOs, he said, formulated by various dictators had proven to be fateful for the nation, adding that the so-called 1962 constitution of Ayub Khan could be termed an LFO in disguise.

Mr Khan claimed that the same document was responsible for the country’s dismemberment in 1971 while it (the 1962 constitution) had also caused election results to be changed by virtue of which Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah had lost against Ayub Khan in 1965.

He said that Gen Yahya Khan and Gen Ziaul Haq had also wreaked havoc upon the constitution under the same garb.

The president of the Supreme Court Bar Association said that favouritism in the higher judiciary had begun with the Nusrat Bhutto case, adding that Shareefuddin Pirzada was responsible for misguiding the nation as well as all dictatorial regimes.

Earlier, president of the Larkana High Court Bar Association Abdul Razaq Soomro and senior lawyer Abdul Ghafoor Bhurgri welcomed the guest.
