Multan dist council backs Kalabagh project
MULTAN, Aug 29: The district council unanimously approved a resolution here on Friday to support construction of Kalabagh dam.
The council also appreciated President Gen Pervez Musharraf in its resolution for, what it said, taking a bold stand on the important national issue of improving water resources.
The resolution was tabled by Maj Muhammad Umar (retired), in the meeting presided over by Naib Nazim Malik Amer Dogar. District Nazim Pir Riaz Qureshi was also present on the occasion.
Another resolution tabled by Allah Ditta Kashif Bosan was also approved unanimously to revise the district government budget for 2003-04 prepared when there was an acting Nazim heading the district government.
The house approved a proposal to constitute a budget development committee to probe whether the flaws and statistical errors in the fiscal statement were accidental or deliberate. The house was assured that all the four tehsils of the district would be given representation in the committee formed to conduct study the budget.
The house also approved 15 per cent increase in the salaries of district government employees, Rs5.62 million for the home economics college staff, funds for the schools of special children situated in Shah Rukn-i-Alam Colony and Jalalpur Pirwala, salaries of the staff of Jalalpur Pirwala THQ hospital, and funds for the industrial homes to be set up at Shujabad and Jalalpur Pirwala.
POULTRY FEED: A poultry feed factory has been operating at Mohallah Chah Mooratwala on Aljillan Road, causing troubles to the residents of the locality.
According to APP, the affected people said at a press conference on Friday the stench emitting out of the factory had causing various diseases to the children.
They claimed that factory owner Riaz Husain Shahid had agreed to shift the feed manufacturing unit by March, 2003, but now he had backed out of his promise.
The residents of the locality have demanded the authorities concerned to order shifting of the factory at the earliest.
