MIANWALI: Sister-in-law shot dead over honour
MIANWALI, Jan 27: Another woman fell prey to honour killing when she was shot dead by her brother-in-law at a crowded locality here on Monday night.
According to eyewitnesses, Ghulam Muhammad alias Mummy Utra chased her sister-in-law when she came out of a house at Miana area near Purana Yateem Khana and hit her shotgun on her legs.
Lying in the street, the woman, a mother of five, cried for help, but no body dared to stop the assailant, who is said to be a criminal.
Some youngsters, who were playing volley ball only steps away from the scene, rushed to persuade the suspect not to attack the woman, but to no avail. The man also fired at the women from a close range and left her to die in a pool of blood. She died after some time.
Led by information, the district police reached there and sent the body to the mortuary for postmortem. Later, suspect's brother Muhammad Ramzan Utra got registered a case against him with a police station. He informed police that his wife and brother had exchanged fire an year ago over some clash.
Mummy Utra is learnt to have made his name in the underworld and he had been awarded life imprisonment, but he was released after spending few years in jail. He is currently running a canteen at the sessions court premises and also deals in cattle business.
