RAWALPINDI: SP, guards beat up Murree Tehsil Nazim
RAWALPINDI, Feb 13: The Superintendent of Police Headquarters and his guards beat up a Tehsil Naib Nazim black and blue on Friday when he entered his office without permission, eye- witnesses and police sources told Dawn.
The sources said Murree Tehsil Naib Nazim, Sardar Sajid, arrived at the District Police Office to meet the SP Headquarters, Jan Mohammad Khan. As Mr Sajid tried to enter the office of the SP Headquarters, he was stopped by the guard, but he managed to enter the office.
The SP, who the sources said, was talking to someone on phone, got annoyed with the Nazim for entering his office without permission and asked him to leave his office. While the Nazim was in a fix, the SP called the police guards who beat him black and blue. The SP also joined the fray.
The hue and cry of the Nazim created panic among the staff of the DPO, Syed Moravat Shah, whose office is also situated on the premises. The DPO sent his guards to see what was happening in the SP's office. When the DPO was told about the incident, he asked his staff to bring the Nazim to his office. But the Nazim refused to come.
Sardar Sajid, when contacted by Dawn said: "I went to the office of the SP Headquarters in connection with an investigation and gave my visiting card to the staff officer of the SP, but he gave no response. After waiting for a long time, I walked into his office. On seeing me, the SP got up and first he asked me to leave and then he pounced upon me."
When District Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani was contacted for comments on the incident, he was not available. However, the DPO, Syed Moravat Shah's intervention helped resolve the issue.
Meanwhile: Two robbers looted Rs375,000 from a prize bond dealer near Sarwar Shaheed Park on Friday and escaped, police said.
Malik Sardar was on his way to Raja Bazaar after buying prize bonds from the State Bank when two motorcyclists intercepted him on Sarwar Shaheed Road and snatched the bag containing the bonds.
