SAHIWAL: Market body in Sahiwal gets its land back

SAHIWAL, Feb 15: Structures built on 6 kanals of the Sahiwal Grain Market Commission Agents Association were removed on Sunday on the orders of the Multan bench of the Lahore High Court.

Judicial magistrate Zahid Bakhtiar supervised the operation and restored the possession of the land to the Sahiwal Commission Agents Association. The grain market was established in 1970 on over 41-kanal, 8-marla purchased by the association. The Sahiwal Market Committee had built offices and residence of its chairman besides shops and stores on 6 kanals of the association.

The committee had been receiving rent of some of the structures since 1970 but did not pay anything to the association. Association president Rana Farooq filed a case for the vacation of the 6 kanals from the market committee.

The Multan bench of the Lahore High Court had ordered removal of the structures built by the market committee and restoration of the possession of the land to the Commission Agents Association.

The doors, windows, furnitures and other things were also taken into possession by the magistrate on court orders. Market Committee chairman Pervez Qayyum was nominated by Punjab Minister for Agriculture Arshad Khan Lodhi.
