GUJRANWALA: Wasa workers protest manhandling of aides

GUJRANWALA, Feb 19: The Water and Sanitation Agency workers on Thursday protested manhandling of four of their colleagues by a union council Naib Nazim and his men for not cleaning their street.

Reports said four sanitary workers - Wakeel Masih, Latif Masih, Arif Masih and Binyamin Masih - were going to clean the Naushera Road on the orders of MPA Lala Shakeelur Rahman.

When they reached near the road, UC Naib Nazim Arshad Farooq stopped and asked them to clean his street first. On their refusal, the Nazim and his goons thrashed the workers who were hospitalized for treatment.

The sanitary workers and labour union leaders condemned the attack on their colleagues and demanded that the Naib Nazim should be booked by police at the earliest. Otherwise, they said, they would take to streets for protest.

ROBBERIES: Robbers struck thrice in and around the city on Thursday. Three highwaymen intercepted a truck-load of telephone cable on GT Road. They beat truck driver Ghulam Sarwar and security guard Younas and snatched Rs3,800 in cash from them and drove away with the truck. Three robbers intercepted Arif, Sarwar and Sabir near Kot Ladha village and deprived them of Rs12,000 in cash collectively at gunpoint.
