SANGHAR: Water rotation programme initiated

SANGHAR, March 7: The irrigation department started a one-month-long water rotation programme in the Nara Canal system on Sunday owing to water shortage. Under the programme, the Din Wah of the Khadro sub-division was closed for a week.

An irrigation official told this correspondent that water level in the Nasra Canal had dropped to four feet because of little water in the Indus river which had necessitated the water rotation programme.

After Din Wah, the Shahu branch of the Jhol sub-division would be closed from March 14, he said and added that if the situation did not improve, the rotation programme would have to be extended. Some local farmers said that the programme would adversely effect the wheat crop as it was in its final stage and required one or two more watering.

WORKSHOP: A training workshop of the district vigilance committee on "Abolition of Bonded Labour" was held here at the press club on Sunday. Speaking at the workshop, organized by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, HRCP vice-chairman Ali Hassan said that such committees would be formed in each district of Sindh by district governments.
