MARDAN: Anti-polio drive begins in Mardan

MARDAN, March 8: More than 382,800 children under five years of age will be vaccinated against polio in Mardan district during the three-day campaign to be launched on Tuesday.

This was stated during a meeting held here to review the arrangements being made for the anti-polio campaign. District Nazim Haji Raza Khan presided over the meeting. It was also attended by WHO representatives Ms Diana Brooks and Dr Mir Alam, EDO (health) Dr Abdur Rahim, coordinator health Dr Sardar, MS DHQ hospital Dr Ibrar and union nazims.

Speaking on this occasion, Haji Raza Khan expressed satisfaction with the anti-polio drive and said that no new cases of polio had been detected in the district during the past one year.

He urged government functionaries and elected representative to cooperate with polio teams and ensure that every child up to five years of age gets polio vaccine. Dr Rahim informed the meeting that 800 teams had been constituted to administer polio drops to about 382,000 children throughout the district.
