JHANG: Substandard construction of road alleged

JHANG, March 18: An MPA has expressed serious concern over the breaking of an under-construction road as substandard material was being used by the contractor.

MPA Faisal Hayat Jaboona, in a written letter to the Punjab chief minister, conveyed is concern over the present state of the road being constructed by the provincial highways department. The road, connecting Jhang and Muzaffargarh with Khushab, passes through the most backward and remote Thal area of Jhang tehsil on the right bank of river Jhelum.

The MPA expressed apprehension that the funds might have been embezzled by the officials concerned as substandard material was being used for the construction of the road, which was evident from the fact that barely two months after its construction, a 15-kilometre stretch between Fateh Shah and Kharianwala developed cracks at several places, while the construction of the road was still in progress.

MPA Jaboona alleged that the road was not being constructed according to prescribed specifications, posing great hazard to the vehicles plying on it. He urged the chief minister to send his inspection team to examine the project and take measures for the reconstruction of the road according to its original specifications and take stern action against those responsible for the substandard work.
