SIALKOT: Pasrur lawyers on strike

SIALKOT, April 5: Pasrur lawyers observed on Monday a strike against registration of a case against two of their colleagues. The lawyers boycotted the court proceedings and demanded immediate withdrawal of case against the lawyers.

At a hurriedly called meeting, they expressed grave concern on the situation and demanded immediate transfer of additional district and sessions and civil judges on whose orders a case was registered against their colleagues.

The lawyers pledged during the meeting that they would continue their agitation till the transfer of the judges. A large contingent of police remained present on the civil courts premises.

It may be noted that Advocate Khalid Mahmood Dogar contested the March 28 by-election to Balugan union council Nazim and declared winner by one vote. A re-count was held on the plea of his rival who was declared successful with a difference of 24 votes by the Pasrur returning officer, civil judge Raja Mubin, the next day.

Later, the Pasrur city police registered a case against Advocate Dogar and his colleague Altaf Sohail on the orders of additional district and sessions judge Tariq Mahmood Khan and the civil judge for threatening the returning officer with dire consequences.

JAIL INCIDENT: On the order of a Gujranwala anti-terrorism court, Sialkot SP (headquarters) Umar Farooq Bhatti re-started the investigation of July 25 jail incident. Main accused in the case Inspector Zulfiqar Virk appeared before the police investigating team on Monday and recorded his statement. Inspector Virk is on bail.

SUSPENDED: The Sialkot SP (headquarters) has dismissed from service 18 constables, two head constables, besides ordering punishment for 251 constables.
