RAWALPINDI: Man awarded death in murder case

RAWALPINDI, April 21: A court here on Wednesday handed down death sentence to a person and life imprisonment to another in a murder case. The additional district and sessions judge, Malik Akram Awan , also fined the convict, Mohammad Ikram, Rs100,000. In case he failed to pay the amount, he would have to undergo another six- month jail term.

The court also awarded life imprisonment to co-accused Mohammad Ashraf with a fine of Rs100,000, and eight years' rigorous imprisonment to Mohammad Ikram. The court further awarded eight years' rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs10,000 to Mohammad Ashraf for attempted murder.

The convicts were charged with killing Mohammad Alam over a minor dispute in the jurisdiction of airport police. Meanwhile, additional district and sessions judge Arshad Iqbal awarded two tears' RI to Shahbaz in a drug trafficking case. He was also fined Rs5,000.

The man had been arrested by Pirwadhai police for possessing one-and-a-half kg charas. Special judicial magistrate Akram Bhatti sent an alleged victim of domestic violence to Darul Amaan. Uzma Bibi, mother of two, told the court that her husband, Arshad, always subjected her to violence.
