THATTA: Seminar on Thatta planned

THATTA, May 10: The Thatta Heritage Society has finalized the programme to hold a two-day international seminar on "Thatta: Past, Present and Future" in October. The society finalized the programme at a meeting held at the Makli circuit house here on Monday.

Renowned historian and academician Dr Nabi Bux Khan Baloch presided over the meeting which was attended by Dr Asma Ibrahim, Ghulam Hussain Rangrez, Kaleem Lashari, DCO Ishaq Lashari, Inam Shaikh, Dr Nawaz Shauq, Mariam Majidi, Dr Mohammad Ali Manjhi, Ghaffar Soomro and activists of various NGOs.

The meeting decided to invite intellectuals and writers of international repute from all over the country and abroad to read out their papers highlighting archaeology, history, culture and heritage of Thatta.

Society's Publication Committee chairman Dr Nawaz Shauq informed the meeting that the event would include a drama on Doolha Darya Khan, to be written by Agha Saleem. Eight to 10 fiction, archaeology, history and poetry books would be lunched on the occasion, he further said.

Dr Baloch said that Thatta had important archaeological sites. He said that the seminar needed be held in a highly academic sense so that its purpose was achieved. He called upon the federal government to improve archaeology and culture departments.

He demanded that the Sindh government should establish a museum in Makli. Sindhi Adabi Board chairman Inam Shaikh offered to publish books on Thatta at concessional rate.
