THATTA: Tax recovery in rain-hit areas opposed
THATTA, May 16: Pakistan Muslim League MNA Ayaz Ali Shah Shirazi has taken notice of directives issued by the DDO revenue to Mukhtiarkars of all talukas to achieve the recovery target of Rs878,430 as land tax (Dhal) and water charges (Abiyano) for the Kharif 2003-04.
Talking to newsmen at the press club on Sunday, Ayaz Shah said that officials should not bypass policies of the district government. He said that the district administration had no right to confiscate the properties of growers.
He recalled that the prime minister and Sindh chief minister had waived Dhal and Abiyano during their visits to the district after the last year's torrential rains. Mr Shirazi said that the DCO office should not exceed its jurisdiction without prior consent of the district Nazim.
He lamented that the Sindh chief minister did not bother to take the Shirazi group in confidence on the issue of transfer and postings of officials in the district.
He alleged that the Sindh minister for mineral resources, Haji Usman Malkani had created a rift between the Sindh chief minister and the Shirazi group. The MNA said that it was our mistake to get elected a non- popular Wadero like Usman Malkani.
He alleged that Haji Usman Malkani had looted and plundered the national exchequer and betrayed the Shirazi group. He said that in the future the Shirazi group would field their own candidate against Mr Malkani even he was issued a party ticket. Ayaz Shah said that he was striving hard for the release of water for the Abkalyani season so that growers could cultivate paddy crop in time.
