GUJRANWALA: Dacoits injure woman, her children
GUJRANWALA, May 18: A woman and her two children were shot at and injured by bandits during a dacoity bid in Ferozewala village on Tuesday. Reports said four dacoits burst into the house of Abdul Hameed. They held up Nazia, Asma and Sami at gunpoint.
The gangsters opened fire when they raised a hue and cry. They made off with cash, jewellery and valuables. The injured were rushed to the DHQ hospital. Police have registered a case and investigating into the matter.
Staff found absent: The DCO paid a surprise visit to the agricultural & water management office and a girls college in Wazirabad and found the entire staff absent from duty.
A press release issued by the DCO office here on Tuesday said that stern action had been recommended against the absentees. DCO Fazeel Asghar also visited the buildings department and inquired about the progress on various uplift projects, but Deputy District Officer Muzafar Ahmad reportedly failed to give a briefing.
Later, a team led by the DCO raided clinics of various quacks in Wazirabad and arrested Amjed Hussain and a prayer leader on charges of prescribing veterinary medicines to human beings.
He was accompanied by Executive District Officer (Health) Dr Zafar Iqbal Niazi, the deputy district officer, the drug inspector, SHOs and Elite Force personnel.
SEATS REMOVED: The traffic police removed extra seats from 110 public transport vehicles plying between Ghakkar and Gujranwala during an operation here on Tuesday. SP Intisar Husain Jaffery warned the drivers against overloading and reckless driving.
SEWERAGE: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has started working on the first phase of a sewerage scheme under Punjab chief minister's special package.
Inaugurating the work here on Thursday, the ruling party MNA, Chaudhary Shahid Akram Bhinder, said the chief minister had already approved Rs200 million for the purpose. He said the scheme had been ignored by successive governments for the last five years.
