SANGHAR, May 19: The members of the district council at its session here on Wednesday demanded the arrest of a federal minister, end to the water rotation programme and making of tube-wells linked to the Left Bank Outfall Drain functional.

The members also demanded removal of checkposts established by market committee contractors and action against those who had established the check posts in violation of relevant rules.

Speaking at the session, Raja Shahid praised the District Police Officer for registering an FIR against Federal Communication Minister Babar Ghouri who, according to him, had stormed a polling station during the by-elections for NA-236.

Dr Hashim Khaskheli, Qasim Mahar and Aziz Ghouri said that the federal communication minister had violated the Election Commission rules therefore, he should be arrested.

The district council members protested against the shortage of water and an unscheduled water rotation programme in the district. The Sub-Divisional Officer, irrigation department, Nara area, told the session that the capacity of the Nara Canal was about 14,000 cusecs of water but at present there were only 6,000 cusecs of water in it.

Rana Shoukat did not agree with the SDO and said that he had provided wrong figures and water position in the canal was better than that described by the SDO. He said that the shortage of water was artificial and aimed at extortion from farmers.

The district food controller informed the council members that 150,000 bags of wheat had been procured against the target of 1,500,000 bags.

NAZIM: District Nazim Roshan Din Junejo tried to hand over a copy of the stay order issued by the Sindh High Court against the May 6 no-confidence move against him.

However, council convener Dr Mohammad Ahmed Rajput did not receive it. There was no discussion on minutes of the previous session (May 6) due to the stay order of the SHC. The Nazim sat in his chamber while the council was in session.
