HYDERABAD: Karachi blast condemned
HYDERABAD, June 1: The Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party held a demonstration outside the local press club on Tuesday to protest against the killing of innocent people in Karachi.
Speaking on the occasion, party leader Nandlal Malhi alleged that the federal government had failed to protect the lives of the people as it had given in to terrorists while denouncing the release of toxic water in the River Indus. Terming Karachi the heart of Sindh, Mr Malhi warned that the STPP would foil any conspiracy to divide the province.
CONDOLENCE MEETING: Members of the Shia community held a condolence meeting at Qadamgah Maula Ali here on Tuesday to mourn those killed in an attack on Imambargah Ali Raza in Karachi on Monday.
Speaking at the meeting presided over by Syed Kazim Shah Naqi, Allama Altaf Hussaini al-Hussaini, Nizamul Haideri and Hakeem Ibrar Hussain, making it clear that the tragedy was not related to the murder of Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai, blamed US agents for the killings. Some members of the community held protest demonstrations outside the Latifabad residence of Home Adviser Aftab Ahmed Shaikh and the local press club.
SUKKUR: A shutter-down strike was observed in Kandhra and Thul to protest against the killings in Karachi. Protesters also blocked the main road and pelted stones on vehicles.
KHAIRPUR: A complete strike was observed in Khairpur on Tuesday to protest the attack on the Imambargah Ali Raza in Karachi. All important business centres remained closed, including Shahi Bazaar.
Angry youth blocked the National Highway for some time and protested against the terrorist attack on Imambargah in Karachi. Protesters also resorted to use of force and a number of public and private properties were hit. A couple of injuries were also reported.
Police have arrested about 11 persons and resorted to tear gas and baton charged to disperse the protesters. Some unknown persons blocked the Panj Hatti Road of the town and burnt tyres. Strike was also observed in Ranipur, Kot Diji, Kumb, and Kot Bungalow towns and procession were taken out to condemn the killings in Karachi.
PRISONER DIES: An under-trial prisoner died under mysterious circumstances in a Kot Diji judicial lockup on Sunday evening. Relatives of deceased Shahbaz Ali Dazkani, 45, suspected that police had tortured him to death. Some four months back, the Kot Diji police had arrested Shahbaz from Lakho Khan Dazkani village in an alleged encounter and kept him at the lockup after producing him in a local court.
