HYDERABAD: Proposal for relocation of funds dropped
HYDERABAD, June 2: The finance department of the district government here on Wednesday dropped a proposal of seeking re-appropriation of funds by the district council as it failed to satisfy members of the council's finance committee.
Finance committee members, including Abdul Qadeer Qazi, Miran Mohammad Shah and Yousuf Qureshi, held a meeting with the EDO of finance and planning, Sikandar Shah, in his office to seek justifications for relocation of Rs20 million of education works department that it was surrendering before the end of the fiscal year.
A participant of the meeting told this correspondent that the finance department officials could not convince the finance committee members about re-appropriation of funds.
The finance committee was informed that education works department's funds were being diverted for executing schemes of roads. During queries, it was disclosed that Rs50 million which had been allocated for road schemes were not completely released and only Rs40 million were utilised so far.
A finance committee member said that when the allocated amount had not been completely utilised how the funds could be re- appropriated. He said that it appeared that the finance department intended to utilize allocated amount for roads scheme so that it could claim an equal amount in the next budget.
The member said that the finance department had tried to seek approval for re-appropriation of funds in advance for the coming fiscal year in order to set a new precedence.
He, however, said that re-appropriation was approved for the amount that had been surrendered by the Hyderabad Development Authority. The committee had earlier refused to approve re-appropriation of funds in different heads on the ground that such approval should had been sought prior to making expenditures.
