SUKKUR: Upper Sindh plunges into darkness - Power house develops fault

SUKKUR, June 2: The power supply to upper Sindh was suspended on Wednesday evening after a major fault developed in the Guddu thermal power station. Sukkur, Rohri, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Ghotki, and other parts of upper Sindh remained without electricity.

People faced hardships and several fell unconscious as the temperature in these areas touched 48 degrees Celsius. The executive engineer, Hesco, Sukkur, told this correspondent that a fault in the Guddu power house caused the power disruption. However, he said that he was not able to get information about the nature of the fault.

The power supply was disrupted at 4pm. Officials of the power house said that due to increase in load, breakers went off which stopped power generation. They said that the fault had affected 66kv and 132kv supply systems.

They said that engineers and other staff of the power station were repairing the fault. They said that electricity to Jacobabad, Ghotki, Khairpur and Sukkur would be restored gradually after removal of the fault. Meanwhile, Hesco officials announced that power would be disconnected for one hour to each area after the fault was removed to lessen the load.
