LARKANA, June 29: A large number of people hailing from different villages held a protest demonstration against power breakdown near Chuharpur on Tuesday. They raised slogans against the Hesco authorities and blocked the Larkana-Naudero road by putting trunks of trees on it.

As a result, vehicular traffic remained suspended for more than one hour. Later, police arrived at the scene and cleared the road. Meanwhile, power supply to the entire Larkana district remained disturbed on the third consecutive day.

Due to suspension of power supply from the Guddu powerhouse, Hesco has temporarily arranged the supply from Shikarpur. However, it supplied power to each feeder for an hour and then suspended it for an hour to meet the requirements of other feeders.

The main supply was suspended around 7am when the main link was snapped between Shikarpur and Larkana. It was repaired and the supply with low voltage was restored around 11.15 am. On being contacted, the Hesco officials said that the repair work on the fallen towers in Kashmore had been completed and teams were busy testing power transmission.

GOVT CRITICIZED: The activists of the Jamiat Ulema-i- Pakistan here on Tuesday took out a procession to protest against the Sindh government's refusal to allow the Muttahida Majlis-i- Amal to stage peace march in Karachi.

Hafiz Ahmed Ali Abbasi, Maulana Ali Sher Jatoi and others led the procession that marched on the main roads of city and ended outside Jinnah Bagh. Speaking on the occasion, the JUP leaders criticized the Sindh government for banning the entry of Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Qazi Hussain Ahmed in Sindh.

They alleged that the government had failed to contain terrorism in the province and the law and order situation had continued to deteriorate. Instead of supporting the peace march, the government had created a mess in Karachi by blocking the roads leading to Numaish, they said.

They also regretted an acute shortage of water in Larkana district and said that it would cast a negative impact on rice cultivation. They demanded early release of enough water in the Rice Canal and proper water share of the province.
